Let’s Elevate Vet Med Together: Join Me at the AVMA DEIW Summit in Atlanta! 🏙️✨

I’m gearing up for the AVMA DEIW Summit from November 7-9, in Atlanta, and it’s shaping up to be a transformative experience. If you’re interested in fostering Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Wellbeing (DEIW) in veterinary medicine, this is where you need to be. Let’s not just attend—let’s engage, question, and push for meaningful change!

Why DEI Matters to My AVMA Vision
As an AVMA President-Elect candidate, I believe in keeping diversity and wellbeing at the forefront of every decision. Attending the DEIW Summit is not just about learning but reinforcing my commitment to ensuring these values stay central to AVMA’s mission. Through initiatives that focus on equity and inclusion, we can create a veterinary profession that thrives by valuing every individual.

Why Atlanta?
Atlanta’s deep-rooted history in civil rights makes it the perfect host for this summit. From the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. to the National Center for Civil and Human Rights, the city embodies progress and justice, aligning perfectly with our mission at the summit.

Incredible Presenters to Inspire Us
Here are a few standout speakers I’m really excited about:

  • Bertice Berry, PhD: Sociologist and author, Dr. Berry will deliver the keynote on how diversity is essential for creativity and wellbeing. Her humor and storytelling will leave us with tools to build inclusive environments.
  • Chef Brave Heart: An Indigenous chef, Chef Brave Heart will lead a session on Indigenous food sovereignty, showing how ancestral foodways can teach us about belonging and community.

  • Adam “Smiley” Poswolsky: With a focus on fostering belonging at work, Adam will help us understand how to nurture human connection and create more inclusive teams in veterinary settings.

Let’s Meet Up!
I’d love to connect with you at the summit! Whether you’re curious about DEIW or just want to chat about the profession, message me if you’re attending, and let’s plan a meet-up in Atlanta! Can’t make it in person? No problem! I’m here for virtual chats too. 📱

Engage with the Summit
If you have questions or DEIW topics you’d love to discuss, drop them in the comments or message me directly. This is all about making our field more inclusive and accessible, so let’s learn from each other and grow together. What challenges are you seeing in your practice around diversity and wellbeing? Let’s talk!

Vet for a Day: Inspiring Future Generations
During the DEIW Summit, the AVMA Vet for a Day initiative will introduce students from Atlanta Public Schools to the world of veterinary medicine. This program embodies the commitment to diversity by inspiring young people from all backgrounds to explore a future in our profession. As part of my interest in expanding DEI in veterinary medicine, I’m excited to see how we can continue to encourage diverse talent to join and lead in this profession.

Stay Tuned for Insights
I’ll be sharing updates and key takeaways from the summit on my blog and social channels, so stay tuned. Together, we can continue the important work of making veterinary medicine more equitable, diverse, and welcoming for all.
